My name’s Peter and I’m an HGV Driver at Bidvest Foodservice. I start early in the morning and the average type of day for me is probably 20-25 drops around a particular area of the country, delivering fresh, frozen and ambient food.
Each time I arrive at a customer’s I have to get the tailgate out, make sure all the safety aspects are in place, like the bars and the side-rails, and then I can start moving the cages onto the tail-lift, so that everything is moved in to the customer’s premises safely.
I unpack the stock into the customer’s storage area and they will come round and check everything off against the invoice for the goods they’ve ordered. If there are any problems or questions, I can usually sort it out while I’m on-site. If not, I’ll let our Customer Services team know and they’ll make sure the customer’s issue is resolved.
All our Drivers are briefed on ‘green band’ driving as part of their driving skills, which are taught during the CPC training we go through. That includes things like no harsh breaking and no over-revving. It helps us to drive more economically, saving money for the business, plus it also has benefits for the environment.
